Little Star - A Review

Little Star

I recently received the children's book Little Star to review.  I love Christmas time, and I am always looking for new books for the kids that tell the Christmas story.  I was excited when I received this book to review.  It's illustrations are adorable and beautifully colored.

However, after reading this story, I have a large hesitation for suggesting this book to others.  The story is sweet and simple, and quick to catch the attention of the kids.  But the first half of the book is completely fictional about the stars, how they glow, how comets play a part, etc.  In essence, this is not a big deal.  Most children's books are fictionally based (and rightfully so).  The problem for me came with the completely fictional story being paired with the true story of Christ's birth.  I don't know that all children are as inquisitive as my daughter is, but she would immediately question the part about how the stars work, etc., and when I told her that it was just a story, not true...then what is she to think when we got to the Christmas story part?  I don't want to do anything that would lead her to believe that Christ's birth was just a story, not real.

I will not be reading this to my children for that reason, and I cannot suggest it to others without them knowing the concerns that I have with it.

I received this book free from Blogging for Books as part of their book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
